The Fuzzy Needle is proud to welcome the legendary Tuareg musician Mdou Moctar to the shop for an intimate solo show. His desert-inflected psych rock has earned critical acclaim from Pitchfork and Rolling Stone. Moctar’s latest album Tears of Injustice is an acoustic reworking of 2024’s Funeral for Justice; as the band writes, the record conveys “the grief of a nation locked into a constant churn of poverty, colonial exploitation, and political upheaval.”
This will be a very personal listening room experience — we’ll have some tix on sale at the door, but we advise advance purchase, as there’s limited space. We hope you can join us. Doors at 7 pm, show at 8 pm. $25 adv tickets, $30 at the door.

The Fuzzy Review is back. After a great Q&A with author Laurie Gwen Shapiro earlier this year, we’re welcoming poet and musician Lee Bains to the shop to celebrate his debut poetry collection Work Lunch, which comes out Oct. 13th. In these poems, Bains, an Alabama native, puts Southern foodways under the microscope — and in doing so, examines the complexities of Southern life, labor and struggle.
Wilmington-based author and critic John Jeremiah Sullivan will be moderating an author Q&A. Bains will also be performing some original music that night. We’ll announce our opening musicians as the event date approaches. But for now, get your tickets — $15 advance, $20 at the door. BYOB.

Earth Day Cacao Ceremony

“Join us for a special ceremony at the Fuzzy Needle. On Earth Day we will gather in community for what can only be described as a journey to open our hearts and connect us to our true nature. We will sip cacao, a plant medicine that contains bliss chemicals and stimulates the heart space. As we sip our cacao we begin to access a deeper sense of self and start to hear the messages that lay on our heart. We will be held by the music as it stimulates our senses and reverberates through our bodies. A curated sonic journey with playful crescendoes that harmonize our inner and outer landscape.
Through out the evening we will set intentions, connect with community, drop deeper into our breath, move freely in our bodies, and celebrate Earth and all her majesty! Every breath, every dance, every song, every sip of our cacao will be a prayer of gratitude for our home. Remembering that every step we take is a chance to walk in harmony with this living, breathing world. We will conclude our ceremony with the reminder to walk softer, breathe deeper, and love harder.
Doors will open at 7:00 so you can get settled into the space. Our ceremony and sonic journey will begin promptly at 7:30. You can bring a meditation seat or floor cushion if you have one! You’re welcome to bring your own mug as well.”

Afterwards, we’ll have a Q & A moderated by John Jeremiah Sullivan, the southern editor for the Paris Review. We’ll also be treated to original music from Wilmington’s own nightingale Julia Rothenberger.
